SOUTHWEST DESERT MURAL Acrylic, 4.5′ x 8′, 2023
Cynthia Smith
I enjoy working in a variety of media: acrylic, oil, watercolor, graphite, charcoal, and pastels. I work in a realistic style inspired by the beauty I marvel at seeing in everyday life.
I work in several genres: landscapes, still lifes, and portraits.
This mural painting was commissioned by Pat Corey to decorate her new home in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
“Red, Black, and White Bowl” made with “chocolate” clay body from New Mexico Clay Company.

I primarily create functional ceramics such as bowls. I am interested in making bowls because they are a basic ceramic form. It is what people have used to eat from and cook with since antiquity. Making them helps me to better understand the daily lives of people who have gone before me. This one is inspired by the work of the modern artist Mondrian.
